The reported bonuses amount to up to £4,923 a year, and earnings from profit sharing are generally in the range from £98.26 to £5,596 a year. 

Starting salary

IT systems engineers employed in entry-level jobs typically have salaries in the range from £15,791 to £39,849 a year including bonuses, which can amount to up to £4,027 a year according to Payscale. The median salary for professionals in entry-level positions is £26,101 a year. 

The starting salaries for IT systems engineers are significantly higher in London, where these professionals make between £18,000 and £59,686 a year, with the average salary around £29,367 a year. London-based IT systems engineers report earning bonuses in the range from £495.79 to £3,439 a year.

The average contract rate for system engineers employed in the UK is £350 per day according to IT Jobs Watch. 90 percent of these professionals are paid more than £216 per day, and 10 percent report being offered a daily rate of more than £475. The median daily rate for the UK not including London is slightly lower than the overall average, at £333.

Hourly rate

The median hourly rate for system engineers employed on a contract basis is £25.75 according to IT Jobs Watch. 90 percent of system engineers report earning more than £18.85 per hour, and 10 percent are offered a contract rate of more than £43.25 per hour.

The average salary for IT system engineers working in the UK is £46,000 a year according to MySalary.co.uk. The median annual pay varies significantly from region to region. IT system engineers working in London earn £50,141 a year on average, those employed in the South East make £47,380 a year, engineers based in the Midlands are paid £42,780 a year, those working in Northern Ireland earn £41,400 a year, engineers employed in the North West make £40,480 a year, those based in the South West earn £40,020 a year, professionals employed in Scotland earn £39,100 a year, engineers working in Wales are paid £38,640 a year, those based in the East of England earn £38,180 a year, and professionals working in Yorkshire and the North East make £36,800 a year on average.
